Aging is a spontaneous and inevitable process of biological processes over time, tt is inevitable. Over time, our skin loses its youthful plumpness and elasticity, becomes saggy, and wrinkles and fine lines appear. The root cause is that as we age, our bodies produce less collagen, the protein that keeps our skin strong, supple, and healthy. What’s more, we also naturally lose facial fat — especially in the cheeks, mouth, jawline, chin, and under-eye areas — which makes our skin more susceptible to the dreaded sagging. Surgical face lifts have long been a solution for the rich and famous, but the procedure is expensive, invasive, and risky. For the average person who can’t afford the high costs or doesn’t want to undergo such a major surgery, thread lifts are a safe, affordable, non-invasive alternative that still delivers great results.
What is a thread lift?
A thread lift is a non-surgical procedure designed to combat the signs of aging on the face and neck by lifting and tightening the skin for a younger, smoother, healthier-looking skin.
A thread lift uses a variety of dissolvable PDO (polydioxane) threads that are safely inserted under the skin, then tightened and pulled back to re-suspend sagging areas. This gives the skin a firm, revitalized, and youthful appearance.
A thread lift can be used to treat any area of the face, including the forehead, cheeks, jowls, eyebrows, jawline, and neck. This treatment is ideal for patients between 30 and 50 years old who have mild to moderate signs of skin sagging.
This shows that a thread lift is a widely applicable, fast, effective, and painless way to treat sagging skin caused by aging.
How does a thread lift work?
We’ve taken a brief look at thread lifts. But if you’re still unsure if this treatment is right for you, here’s a step-by-step guide outlining what happens during a thread lift:
① The doctor will carefully observe your skin and identify areas of sagging, marking areas on your face where each thread will be placed.
② Local anesthesia is applied to the treatment area, making the procedure comfortable and painless.
③ Your doctor will insert PDO (polydioxanone) threads under your skin using a cannula. These threads are very thin and have tiny tapered structures along their length.
④ The threads are shaped and secured in place, then pulled back and tightened. The tapered structures grab the skin tissue and re-suspend the sagging area.
⑤ The PDO threads are then trimmed to ensure they are secure and invisible within the skin.
A thread lift procedure usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. There is virtually no downtime, which means you can return to work and daily activities right away. Aside from minor tenderness, swelling, and bruising (which subsides after a day or two), there are minimal side effects.
Once the thread lift procedure is complete, you’ll see results immediately. Thanks to the subtle but physical “lift” that PDO threads provide, your skin will look firmer, smoother, and more youthful when you leave the clinic. Once everything settles down, you can see the final results 10 to 14 days after the procedure.
Another benefit of a thread lift is that the treatment is long-lasting. The body reacts to the PDO threads as if they were a “wound,” kicking off a natural healing process. Don’t worry, this is completely normal and safe—it’s just the body’s way of reacting to something foreign under the skin.
As part of this healing process, the body restarts collagen production and delivers large amounts of collagen to the treated area. Collagen is a protein that is responsible for keeping the skin strong, supple, and healthy. Unfortunately, as we age, our bodies produce less and less collagen.
Inserting collagen threads into the skin helps rejuvenate the skin, restoring its tone, firmness, and appearance while fighting signs of aging. The results of a thread lift can last up to 18 months. The PDO threads remain in place for 6 to 12 months before dissolving, depending on the patient’s age, skin type, metabolism, and lifestyle. After this, the healing process of the skin producing collagen continues for an average of 6 months.
Since thread lifts are safe, non-invasive, and use dissolvable sutures, thread lift treatments can be repeated as many times as necessary.
After your treatment, your doctor will advise you on follow-up care so that you can get the best results from your thread lift treatment and leave the clinic feeling safe, comfortable, and completely satisfied.
